Butterfly Fairies Journal Pages

Today I wanted to share some digital artwork which I made. Sometimes it’s just nice to get away from the clutter of my craftroom and make digital art, ready to use in my craft projects. I created these pages using Photoshop CC.

These are the four butterfly fairies which I created. I used four black and white etchings of some Shakespearean ladies which I colored using layering and blending techniques. I then added other elements to create an original work of art.

These butterfly fairies were adapted from black and white images of Imogen from Shakespeares Cymbeline and Olivia from Twelfth Night

These fairies were created from images of Lady Northumberland from Henry IV Part 2 and Ophelia from Hamlet

All of these images started life as black and white etchings. Each were colored using layering and blending techniques in Photoshop. The backgrounds were removed and replaced with textures, images of old frames, letters and music sheets, flowers and butterflies. All of the fairies were given butterfly wings.

My first fairy is of Imogen from William Shakespeares Cymbeline. She was given a green robe and given a bird and blossoms. Cymbeline was given orange orchids.

Lady Northumberland was give a very regal frame as part of her background and some beautiful butterfly images in the corners. Ophelia is my favorite. She has a very wistful face, perfect for a fairy with delicate blue/green turquoise butterflies.
